Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, May 23, 2012
Explain Pain Conference
There is considerable growing scientific evidence that the more patients know and understand regarding their pain, the better off they are. New research, teaching patients to understand the biology behind their pain allows for decreased pain levels, increased function, better movement of the trunk/joints, better performance in exercise/treatment, decreased anxiety and fear, changes in thought processing, lifts depression and overall increased quality of life!
In this presentation, Adriaan Louw, an international speaker, physical therapist and neuroscience researcher will provide attendees with a fun, interactive presentation on the biology of pain – especially chronic pain, including conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and more. Attendees will learn about why pain persists, changes in the brain, changes in energy, sensitivity of tissues, fatigue, sleep/appetite changes and more. This presentation will also provide attendees with a greater understanding of the different treatments aimed at helping patients with chronic pain, including, medication, education, exercise, meditation, breathing exercises and more.
The best part? The studies shows not only are patients able to understand the material, but a session, such as this 3 hour session is enough to make significant changes.
