Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and multiple trigger points or tender spots in precise areas located in all four body quadrants. Eighteen sites usually are found in clusters around the neck, shoulder, chest, hip, knee, and elbow region.
To meet the diagnostic criteria, for Fibromyalgia, patients must have widespread pain in all four quadrants of their body for a minimum duration of three months and at least 11 of the 18 specified tender points. Tender points hurt where pressed, but do not refer pain elsewhere.
